Website design

Working with our customers

  • We'll meet with you to discuss your website requirements.
  • We'll provide you with a written quote, and an outline structure for your website. Our quote is broken down into individual items so that you know how much you will pay and what you will get for your money.
  • We'll give you several opportunities to review and comment on the website as we develop it.
  • We'll help you to prepare the contents of your site, and make sure it will be effective on the web page.

Following best practice

We're big fans of Jakob Nielsen, who is a top writer on website usability. We follow the conventions and good practices that he advocates.

Search engine considerations

We'll design your website to be search engine friendly and will register it with Google and Yahoo.

Accessibility checks

We check out our sites to make sure they are accessible to people with disabilities.

The checks we use are...

  • code validation (to make sure the website code is error free)
  • Wave (to make sure the site meets the W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines)
  • colour contrast analysis (to make sure there is enough contrast between foreground and background colours)

Testing in different browsers

Unfortunately, there are discrepancies in the way that different browsers interpret website code. This can lead to a website which looks great in one browser displaying incorrectly in another.

We always test our websites in a number of different browsers, including Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Safari (widely used on Apple Macs).

Testing by users

It's always good to get some 'real users' to put a website through its paces before it goes live. We can facilitate this for you.

" Ten years ago, the Web was exciting to people. Today it's routine. It's a tool. If it's convenient, they will use it; if not, they won't...Users are getting less tolerant of difficult sites, so every design flaw means lost business. Usability has become more important than ever."
